Training Structure
Detachment 060’s training structure is 100% cadet ran and planned. This allows our cadets at all levels learn the core values of followership and leadership in the Air Force and how to implement them properly.
AS 100:
The Foundations of the Air Force
Designed for freshman cadets, this course provides an overview of the United States Air Force and the expectations of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. This class also dives into the history of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. This class is 1 hour per week.
AS 200:
The Evolution of USAF: Air and Space Power
Designed for sophomore cadets, this course emphasizes core values and human relations. Students are introduced to the basics of leadership theory, conflict management and problem solving where they are challenged to enhance their overall written and communication skills. This class is 1 hour per week.
AS 300:
Leading People and Effective Communication
In this junior-level course, students study leadership, management fundamentals, professional knowledge, Air Force personnel and evaluation systems, leadership ethics, and the communication skills required of a junior Air Force officer. This class is 3 hours per week.
AS 400:
National Security Affairs and preparation for Active Duty
This senior-level course prepares cadets for their first active duty assignment as an Air Force officer. Additionally, this course refines communication skills and is taken in tandem with the Leadership Laboratory. This class is 3 hours per week.
Leadership Laboratory (LLAB)
LLAB is the hands-on part of training where cadets engage in dynamic learning of Air Force customs and courtesies, drill and ceremony, and leadership skills. AS100 and 200s in the General Military Course (GMC) are instructed by AS300 and 400s in the Professional Officer Course who plan each week’s training. Over time, GMC develop teamwork and mentorship skills that prepare them for their work as POCs. Special events including base visits, guest speakers, and other training occur in place of LLAB some weeks and work to supplement the curriculum.
Aerospace Studies (AS Class)
AS Class is an in-classroom style course that each AS-level student takes. Beginning with AS100 year, students build their knowledge of the Air Force Doctrine, working their way to AS200 year which focuses on the progression of Air and Space Power. AS300 year delves into team management and professional knowledge that accumulates in AS400 year when cadets take to broader issues of national security and understanding how their position in the Air or Space Force operates.
